Trips
Trips is a three-of-a-kind in which there is a pair on the board and you are holding a third card with the same rank.

The above flop gives you trip Nines. If there is another pair on the board, you will make a full house.
Difference between trips and sets.
If two of the three cards are in your hands rather than being on the board, you have a set instead. When you hit trips, you must be mindful of the strength of your kicker as there is a chance that your opponent also have the same trips but with a better kicker, giving you the second best hand - the worse case scenario in poker.
